My favorite memory of our paddle boards was our move from Ketchikan, Alaska to Petaluma, California. My husband is active duty U.S. Coast Guard so we were changing duty stations summer 2017 with two kids, a dog, a cat, and three inflatable SUPs.
Our household goods were packed up about two weeks before we left our island of Ketchikan. We were able to use our SUPs to do some last-minute exploring on the Tongass Narrows … lots of whales, bears on the shore, and sea life in June.
Next we boarded the ferry to Prince Rupert, Canada and from there made the trip to Banff! Once again our paddle boards proved to be useful as we got out on Two Jack Lake! My youngest daughter was three and my oldest was eight.
We then moved on to Waterton Lakes where the water was incredibly choppy so we weren’t able to paddle board, but that’s okay, we will be back someday!
From there we made our way south to Durango, Colorado where once again we inflated the boards and got out on Lemon Reservoir and Vallecito Lake. It was absolutely amazing in June and my husband got to fish off his ISLE board while I caught some much needed sun rays.
Finally, we headed to our destination in Petaluma, California. On this end our household goods wouldn’t arrive for almost another month, but no worries, we had our paddle boards in the car for instant entertainment! Within a few days we were on the water at Spring Hill Regional Lake and we haven’t stopped exploring since!
Our inflatable SUPs ended up being the perfect addition to our move! They took up hardly any room in the car, don’t take too long to inflate and deflate, and they were instant entertainment for the whole family for free!
