Looking for some fun activities to do over the 4th of July? Of course, you can spend it like most Americans setting up some backyard corn hole and firing up the BBQ, but we have curated a list of not-so-typical activities that you can enjoy with friends this holiday weekend. Time to make this 4th a day to remember!
Start your day off early with a SUP hike! Research some local trails with a lake at the end and spend the entire day outside! Be sure to pack enough water and snacks. We recommend a hike that might be shorter than you would normally choose since you will have to hike out carrying your board after a long day in the sun. The best part of a SUP hike adventure? You will get the lake all to yourself!
4th of July screams BBQ, but give it a twist by taking your fixings to the beach. Pack your cooler and your beach chair—get ready for a day full of beachy fun! If you plan on spending time on the sand until dark, you can always turn your BBQ into a bonfire with a bundle of wood and some marshmallows!
One of the best parts of the long holiday weekend is spending time with friends and family. Host a friendly, yet competitive day of lawn games. Breakout the SpikeBall, a water balloon toss, and Can Jam to keep the entertainment going.
What is the 4th of July without fireworks!? Sit back and watch this iconic feature from a different perspective. Many local firework shows launch off of a floating barge, so paddle on over and get front-row viewing (of course from a safe distance). Always check with your coast guard to see if the waterways will be open during this time. If you are in San Diego, Mission Bay is our top spot to sit back and watch the show from a paddle board!
